Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities was the first educational institution in Poland to enrol the disabled as students in1989.We offer a number of different services according to students’ needs to enable them to be fully included in the life of the University. To coordinate all those tasks the Centre for Education and Rehabilitation of Disabled Students was formed as an inter-departmental unit of the university. Its aim is to make the university physically, educationally, psychologically and socially accessible.

Amongst all the ways in which we help disabled students, personal help is organized. We offer accommodation in dormitories with roomsspecially prepared for students with mobility problems. We help the students to move between the different University buildings in a special van with a lift. Visually impaired students learn how to use equipment and different software during Typhlo-informatics classes. For students with hearing impairment we provide sign language translators’ presence during most of the classes. We offer speech therapy and Polish Language and English Language courses.

For adaptation of the University for disabled students’ needs we received the “Motyl” (Butterfly) statuette and “Lodołamacze” (Ice-breakers) twice in 2008 and 2012 awarded by Polish Organization of Employers of Disabled People (POPON).
